The Hearing Aid Bank Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility criteria for hearing aid support are:

  • The applicant must be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident aged 26 years or older.
  • The applicant must be in receipt of the Federal Government low-income supplement. ($30,000 individual, $45,000 couples or $60,000 for couples with dependants.)
  • They are not eligible for new hearing services under workers compensation, the Hearing Services Program, National Disability Insurance Scheme and/or Department of Veterans’ Affairs programs.
  • The applicant must be in the paid workforce, or have the prospect of entering the workforce following a hearing rehabilitation program.

HCIA aims to notify successful applicants within four (4) weeks of receipt of the application. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by phone or email.

A successful applicant is eligible for $1,050 for one hearing aid or $1,500 for two hearing aids.  This financial contribution will fully subsidise the cost of a range of hearing aids, which will suit most individual needs.  In the event that a more expensive hearing aid is required, the service provider is encouraged to provide the recommended device/s at minimal or no additional cost to the applicant.

HCIA’s financial support is payable directly to the audiology service provider.

HCIA recommends any of its member companies as providers, but the successful applicant is able to use the financial support with any audiology provider.

Upon receipt of an invoice from the chosen audiology provider, following successful fitting, HCIA will pay the service provider directly.

Successful applicants will confirm to HCIA that the hearing aids have been fitted and are fit for purpose.
