The aim of the hearing aid bank is to assist those on low incomes, as defined by the Federal Government, who are either excluded from the paid workforce or at risk or leaving the paid workforce due to hearing loss.
Successful applicants receive a voucher, which will be redeemable for a basic hearing aid, as defined by Office of Hearing Services. The value will be approximately $1050 for one aid and $1,500 for two aids. Where two aids are required, this will be specified on the voucher.
The voucher will enable the individual to choose where they wish to have their aid fitted/supplied.
It is recognised that demand might exceed available funds for vouchers per annum. Thus vouchers will be supplied on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
Applications are now open and we endeavour applicants will be informed of the result of their application within four weeks after receipt of the application.
The individual will have the right to choose a more expensive aid, if it is clinically appropriate. In these instances, all providers will be encouraged to supply a top up, at cost. An alternative is that providers may choose, in these cases, to supply the appropriate aid at no extra cost to the individual.
